At 12:19pm on January 7, 2011, Marc Havener said…: imovie likes to convert to prores or intermediate codec or something like that. Those are good if you are going to begin editing the footage. You aren't doing any editing so its MUCH better and easier to stay in the h264 codec which is what the canon's capture in. Its a smaller file format too.

Did you convert/compress the video before you uploaded it? Or did you upload the original files? Do the original files have the same cropping effect occurring?
